Dear my old friend Lemas,

How are you? We have not seen each other since I immigrated to New York City, it was about three years ago. I have been missing you very much. How are you doing in Hong Kong? Are there any big changes? For me, there has been a huge difference in the past three years. I went to New York City in an environment of a place with no friends, speaking a different language and I remembered that I couldn't even buy a Mcdonald meal in English. So it took me a long time to adapt this new place.
On the second day after I arrived, my uncle drove me and my family to buy some daily supplies. We went to a membership only warehouse club chain operating called BJ's. It was
like a supermarket in Hong Kong, but a tremendous one! I have never been to a store this big.
That remain a profound memory to me. In BJ's you can buy anything you can imagine. The price is cheaper and their size is even bigger. That's why people only need to go there once a month.
And I love to go there with my family.
Also one thing is very interesting here is school. The school life is very different from
Hong Kong. We don't need to wear a school uniform in most of the school in New York City.
Unlike before we have to dress appropriately. If we have a little mess up the with the clothes,
We will get punishment of that. So I feel much more freer in school here. In the first few weeks that I went to school, I didn't know anybody in school. I had no one to talk to, I had to get everything done by myself. But later on, I met a friend call Sungjong, he is a Korean. He was the first Korean I knew in New York City, I didnt know any Korean people before in my life. He is a friendly person and he was also a new immigrant. We started to become friends by borrowing a pen. Once we start talking, we keep knowing each other better. Despite the fact that we are from a different culture and we speak different language, we still became each others best friend. And thats how I started to learn English because we both were an non english speakers. We also have the same hobbies. We played soccer or hung out on weekend. But after the sophomore year, I had to move to Queens so I need to transfer to another school. But we still kept in touch even after I moved.
Last week there was another big change. I am a college student now, I graduated from high school before the summer. I only have four days of classes from Monday to Thursday.
But the classes was much longer and the homework was way more than high school. So that was a new challenge for me to face. But I think I can take it because I am a big boy now. That was my life in the past three years. Tell me something about yours when you write me back a letter. I missed you a lot and i am looking forward to seeing you in next summer. There will be a lot of difference since the last time I saw you, because we all grow up a lot.
Please write soon.

Sincerely yours,
Arthur Ngai
Best friend
